Obituary of Martha E Wright

Martha was born on November 18, 1921, in Sumter, to the late William Sr. and Rosa Wright. She was the last sibling of ten children.

She received her education in the public schools of Sumter County.

She joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist church at an early age, where she was an active member until her health failed.

She loved cooking and feeding others and if someone needed a place to stay she would open up her home to received them. She would help anybody that was in need.

She was a domestic worker for many years where she helped several families raise their children. She also raised several of her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda McFadden; a son, Arthur Wright; seven sisters; and two brothers.

She departed this life on Thursday, April 30, 2020, in Sumter.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two grandsons, Gregory (Gwen) Wright, Sr. and Laquavion Phillips; a granddaughter, Tonya (Sherman) Tomlin;  an  adoptive granddaughter,  Natasha Jackson; seven great  grandchildren, Kiana Tomlin (Marion), Jakela Tomlin (Demetrius), Gregory Wright Jr, Journey Wright, Jordane Wright, DeAnthony McNeil and Micheal McCrae; five  great-great grandchildren,; Tamya, Kaveah, Janiyah, Darryl Jr and Sa’myia; a very special friend, Sandra Lemon and  a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
