Lillian Postell

Obituary of Lillian Postell

On Monday, April 13, 2020, after a long life filled with service to God and her missionaries, Mrs. Lillian Postell departed this earthly realm at her home in Manning, South Carolina.

Born in Manning, South Carolina, on June 7, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Julian Durant and the late Cannie Amos Durant.

As a young woman, Mrs. Postell attended the public schools of Clarendon County and graduated from Manning Training School in 1953. During the early years of her life, Mrs. Postell joined Mt. Zero Baptist Church.

After graduation, Mrs. Postell attended Morris College, majoring in Education. While in college, she cared for her baby sister, the late Louise Wilson with whom she was very close.

After college, Mrs. Postell moved to New York City and was hired at August Martin High School. She retired from August Martin High School, after 25 years as a school aide. During her years of working at August Martin she continued to do her missionary work in the community and her new found church, Rush Temple A.M.E. where she served on the Usher Board. She also was active in civic affairs working diligently with The Boy Scouts as Den Mother while taking care of her children. For many years, Mrs. Postell has cared for the sick and shut-in by doing what she loved: cooking many meals and providing comfort and support. She always wanted to lend a helping hand to assist those in need.

Mrs. Postell relocated to South Carolina in 1985 and soon after became a health aide care giver. She then became a member of Friendship A.M.E. church and served in the following capacities: Steward Board, Usher Board, Trustee Board, Floral Club and the Daughters of Sarah. She continued to be a faithful servant to God, the church and the church community. We all are going to miss Mrs. Postell sitting over in the corner of the church passing out candy, in particular, to Jordan McFadden her little friend, and clapping to music.  She also loved sitting next to her beloved grandson, Aiden Postell as he helped her with turning the pages of the bible.

In 1955, Mrs. Postell was married to the late Roosevelt A.K.A Rosie Postell (the love her life). They were a team and did everything together as one. In her declining health, she continued to talk about her loving husband as she kept their memories alive. Mrs. Postell always received great joy from her husband, children and grandchildren. She adored them and unselfishly gave of herself to make them happy in any way she could.

As Mrs. Postell’s health began to fail, she remained as positive as one could for her condition. It never stopped her from extending herself to others in need. She met and was befriended by the most loving, caring and nurturing caretakers who were by her side to the end and they became her extended family. She enjoyed laughing and talking with them, especially with one in particular, Chantel Dingle. Mrs. Postell who Chantel often referred to as “Momma” shared many special moments together that we all enjoyed, especially Katrina and Aiden Postell and Mary Lawson.

Mama go take your rest, your job on this earth is done and done well. Your loving daughter, Katrina.

In addition, to her mother and father, Mrs. Postell was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Postell, one son, Andre Postell, one sister, Louise Wilson, three brothers, Burnie Durant, Julian Durant, and Harry Durant.
