Obituary of George Ritter, Sr

George Ritter, affectionately called “Pie” was born to the late Clarence and Gladdie Silas Ritter on May 23, 1946 in Eutawville, SC.

He was educated in the public schools of Holly Hill, SC. His hobbies included fishing, playing guitar, singing, fixing lawn mowers and playing checkers. He was well known for his sense of style and his love for suits was truly exceptional.

Upon moving to Sumter, South Carolina George found employment with Cooper Tools, now known as Apex Tools Group. His love for music and playing the guitar led him to become a member of Deacon Burgess and the Mighty Soul Searchers of Sumter. He also played for various groups around the Sumter area such as The Majestic Gospel Singers, Frankie Smalls and the Soul Searchers, The Sumter  Violinaires and many others. He also started his own group with his daughters under the name of Brother George and New Faith. He sang and played gospel music for many years.

His love for God and music gave him the opportunity to become the musician for the Church of Christ where he   established his membership. Under the leadership of Pastor James Clark, he served as the choir director and was ordained an elder in April of 2017. George was very sincere in his walk with Christ and was unashamed of the gospel, which he shared with everyone he met.
