Obituary of Crystal Denise Grant

Ms. Crystal Denise Grant, daughter of Dennis R. Gregg and Sherri Grant, departed this life on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 in Sumter, SC. She was born on June 14, 1988 in Columbia, SC, but was reared in Sumter in the home of her grandmother, the late Mrs. Mary Alice Gregg. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: James and Thelma Grant, and her paternal grandparents: William Gregg Sr. and Mary Alice Gregg. Soon after graduating Sumter High School in 2007, Crystal enlisted in the United States Army where she specialized in supply and logistics management. Upon her completion of both basic and advanced individual training in 2008, Crystal participated in double deployments to combat theaters where she honorably served initially in Baghdad, Iraq and Kabul, Afghanistan. As a result of her war service, she became the recipient of the Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and many others. Upon her discharge from active duty, Crystal worked in several capacities as she attended nursing school briefly at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, and completed her training along with certification at ECPI also in Greenville, SC. She always desired to be a servant to others by becoming a nurse which enabled her to provide personnel care to others who were in compassionate need of tender, love and care as they recovered from their illnesses. In this role, she ministered to others by providing her loving smile and reassuring patients that they would recuperate and return having normal lives. She leaves to cherish her memory besides her parents are five brothers: Corey Grant of Greenville, SC; Legregory Grant and Chancellor Weeks, both of Sumter, SC; Trenton Grant of Davenport, IA; and Kesean Weeks of Atlanta, GA; eight sisters: Keyanna (Cedric) Addison and Shanika Grant, both of Columbia, SC; Kayla Grant, Alexis Weeks, Aaliyah Weeks, Alesia Weeks, Jada and Jasmine Joe, all of Sumter, SC; three uncles: Elder William Gregg Jr., of Greenville, SC; Corey Dingle and Kevin Grant, both of Sumter, SC; three aunts: Jacqueline (Sam) Grant of Manhattan, NY; Sherita Grant and Valerie Jefferson, both of Sumter, SC; one great uncle, James (Judy) Givens of Bronx, NY; two great aunts: Minister Ella Ree Gregg Shaw of Washington, DC and Annie Gregg O’Fori of Silver Springs, MD; an adoptive grandfather, Mr. Ashby Rembert of Sumter, SC; and a hosts of nieces and nephews, very special relatives and friends. The family is receiving friends at 137 John Street Sumter, SC
