Obituary of Moses Yates

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”         II Timothy 4:7-8 KJV

 

Moses “Big Moe” Yates was born in Lydia SC, the son of the late Mrs. Everlena Yates Scarborough and Spurgen Scarborough and Walter McFadden Jr. He was educated in the public schools of Lee County, SC, and was a 1965 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, where he excelled in football, baseball and basketball.

 

He was employed by Kaydon Corporation, until his health failed.

 

He was a life member of Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, a member of the Good Samaritans for all People, and the Do Right Masonic Lodge #377.

 

He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Mary Lisbon Yates of the home; four sons:   Matthew (Sandra) Yates of Sumter, SC; Bernard (Anessa) Yates of Snellville GA; Stanley (Assonia) Yates, and Ryan (Carolyn) Yates of Sumter, SC.; eleven grandchildren:  Kendra, Brianna, Emoni, Kendrick, Mikaela, Sydney, Camryn, Micah, Brittany, Raquan and Nykwon; two great-granddaughters: Amiya and Mckenzie;  three sisters: Sheila Buard, Felicia Lucas and Rebecca Primes; one brother, Ricky Lucas; father-in-law,  Charlie L. Harriott; eleven sisters in-law: Mabel (Wilson) Ruth, Patricia (Joe) Andrades  , Glendell (Will) Clark, Johnnie M (Jerome) Toney, Debora (Harry) Toney, Catina Luckey, Janet (Elvis) King, Sandra Luckey, Angela Luckey, Adriana B. Dubose and Jean Sykes;  two brothers-in-law: Luther Lisbon and Ralph McCollough; two aunts, Estelle Morgan and Amy Yates; and two special friends, Albert Carter and Viola Arthur; and  a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and very close friends.

 

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bernard Yates, Jr., and a brother, Willie Dubose.
