Obituary of Larry Benjamin

Larry Barnes was born June 26, 1954 to the late Manuel, Sr. and Annie Horton Benjamin.

He was educated in the Public School System of Sumter County, where he was a member of the graduating class of 1972 of Sumter (Edmunds) High School.

Larry worked for many years as a production worker at Georgia Pacific and Sumter Casket Company.

At a very young age, Larry became a member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church as a dedicated and working member. He was a compassionate, dedicated and effective member of the Usher Ministry for over forty years. (Amen) He also served in other capacities of the body of Christ at the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church as a Trustee Board Member, Gospel (Mass) Choir member and the J D Prince Scholarship Committee.

Larry also furthered his Biblical Studies by attending South Carolina Congress of Christian Education Classes.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, James W. Hampton, Manuel (the late Ingeborg) Benjamin, Jr. and Frank Benjamin and his sister, Pamela J. Benjamin.

Larry departed this earthly life to gain his earthly wings on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Sumter Health and Rehab, Sumter, SC.

Larry memory will be forever cherished by his sisters, Patricia A. Gordon, Matthette (Joe) Gregg, Jr. and Evangelist Tryfenia (Crystal) Moses; an aunt, Mary Ragins; god sons, Jermaine M. Benjamin and Brandon Nelson; god sister, Searline Reese; dedicated friends, Ashleigh Brown, Mack Daniels and Willie Vaughn; eighteen nieces and nephews; thirty-eight great nieces and nephews; four great- great nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Remember me with joy and laughter for that’s how I’ll remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then I’d rather you not remember me at all.
