Obituary of Helen Clea Diggs

Helen Clea Diggs, widow of the late Vernon Lee Diggs, Sr., was born on May 19, 1940 to the late Sam and Emma Miller Clea in Sumter County, South Carolina.

Helen was educated in the public school system of Sumter County. She was a member of Greater Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church.

Helen was employed at Manchester Farm of Dalzell, SC until her health began to fail. She was a loving, caring, compassionate woman who spoke her mind freely. Her favorite hobbies were fishing and playing bingo.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; Sam and Emma Miller Clea, a brother; Sam Clea, Jr., a son; Timothy Ray Diggs, Sr., and a grandson; Timothy Ray Diggs, Jr.

Helen departed this earthly life for her heavenly home on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.

She leaves to cherish precious memories seven children; Vernon Lee Diggs, Jr. and Jimmy (Dequeria) Diggs both of Columbia, SC, Johnny Diggs, Eddie (Kyra Kelly) Diggs, Alice (Anthony) Green, and Althea Diggs all of Sumter, SC, James (Gloria) Diggs of Greenville, SC, a brother; David (Alpha) Clea, two sisters; Alice Clea Pringle and Nicky (James) Washington, nineteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, a special child that she raised as her own; Cruz Anderson of Wedgefield, SC, an aunt; Queen Dennis of Rembert, SC, a daughter-in-law; Doreen Diggs of Philadelphia, PA, three sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


The family is receiving friends at 62B Somerset Drive Sumter, SC and 5075 Dennis Road Rembert, SC
