Obituary of Carolyn E Knight

Carolyn Epps Knight, daughter of Pleasant W. Epps and Catherine G. Epps, was born on March 20, 1958 in Prince George County, Virginia. She entered into eternal rest on July 28, 2018, at Palmetto Health Baptist in Columbia, South Carolina.

Carolyn attended Petersburg public schools and graduated from Petersburg High School in 1976. During her high school years, Carolyn was an amazing athlete and a star basketball player. After graduating from high school, Carolyn stayed in her hometown and attended Virginia State University where she obtained a Bachler of Science degree in Home Economics and Business in 1981. She then went on to work as a bank manager in many locations in Richmond, Virginia. On July 14, 1984, Carolyn married her sweet heart, Gary and together they birthed three children: Keisha Monique Knight, Katrina Marquita Knight (PhD), and Gary Eugene Knight, Jr. From their union, Carolyn also inherited a son Gary O'neal Bethune. The family relocated to Columbia, South Carolina where Carolyn continued to work as a bank manager until she retired.

Carolyn was an amazing, kind, loving, gentle, and fun daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, auntie, great-auntie, and friend. She was always fly with an "I woke up like this" attitude. Carolyn lived for the present knowing that tomorrow was not promised. She had a love for sewing, sports, shopping, dancing, and traveling. She could make a mean potato salad and deviled eggs that was a big hit among the crowd. Carolyn loved her family and was extremely proud of her children. Most of all, Carolyn was a strong woman. The doctors said she would only live 3-4 years when she was diagnosed with cancer and God blessed her to live for 14 years. She fought to the very end, and if she had it her way she would still be fighting today!

Carolyn is survived by her loving parents, Pleasant W. Epps and Catherine G. Epps, and by her caring, dedicated, and committed husband, Gary Eugene Knight, Sr of 34 years. Together Carolyn and Gary had 4 children: Gary O'neal (K'Tecia) of Hopewell, Virginia, Keisha (Julius) of Columbia, South Carolina, Katrina of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Gary Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina. Carolyn leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Trevon, Dakari, Sean, Karis, Demi, and MaKenzie. She is also survived by one brother, Pleasant Epps (Gloria) of Smithfield, Virginia; two sisters: Dorothy (Terrence) of Manassas, Virginia, and Sabrena of Chesterfield, Virginia; mother-in-law, Mrs. Hattie B. Knight of Alberta, Virginia; two sister-in-law's and a host of brother-in-law's, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

Although Carolyn's body may no longer be here, her loving and gentle spirit will always be with us. You were truly loved, but God loved you more! Rest in heaven Carolyn. Goodbye for now until we meet again.
